The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Ozaukee County is a Catholic lay organization dedicated to serving those in need through person-to-person support, thrift store operations, and community programs. Our thrift store funds critical services like rent assistance, utilities, and hygiene backpacks for the homeless, helping neighbors in Ozaukee County thrive.

JOB SUMMARY:
We’re seeking a compassionate, reliable Non-CDL Driver & Donation/Furniture Lead to join our team. This role is ideal for a person who wants to stay active, give back, and make a tangible difference in our community. You’ll drive non-CDL vehicles to pick up donated and deliver items, supporting our mission to provide clothing, furniture, and hope to those in need. In addition, you will assess and price the donated furniture items for sale as well as small appliances and items that will be placed in our treasure trove/Man Cave as well as assist with the Donation door, if needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Donation Intake: Greet donors at the donation door to assess the furniture items being dropped off to ensure a warm experience even if we are unable to accept the item.
  • Driving & Pickups: Operate a non-CDL vehicle (e.g., van or box truck) to collect donated items from local residences or businesses, following safe driving practices.
  • Customer Service: Provide friendly assistance to donors over the phone when responding to requests to to pick up donated items, answering questions, assessing the request while promoting SVdP’s mission.
  • Inventory Support: Help evaluate, organize and price donations, ensuring items meet quality standards for resale or distribution.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with volunteers and staff to maintain a clean, organized donation area and support thrift store operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a clean driving record (non-CDL).
  • Ability to lift 40-50 lbs. and stand for 5-6 hours per shift.
  • Friendly, compassionate demeanor with a heart for serving others.
  • Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • No prior experience required but familiarity with furniture and pricing a plus!
  • Commitment to SVdP’s mission of helping neighbors in need.

SCHEDULE & BENEFITS

  • Part-Time: Flexible hours, including every other Saturday (no Sundays).

Hard Goods Pricing Specialist

Job Summary:
The Thrift Store Hard Goods Pricing Specialist plays a vital role in SVdP’s mission to serve the community by processing donated items and pricing hard goods for resale. This position receives and sorts the donations received from the donation dock and sets competitive prices for hard goods (e.g. home goods, small appliances, pictures, knickknacks) to maximize sales while ensuring affordability. The ideal candidate is reliable, knowledgeable about home goods/will to learn, customer-focused, and passionate about supporting SVdP’s charitable programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hard Goods Pricing:
    • Inspect donations for quality, ensuring items meet SVdP standards for resale.
    • Safely move and stage items for processing, maintaining an organized donation area.
    • Research and analyze market trends to set competitive prices for hard goods, balancing revenue goals with affordability.
    • Evaluate condition, brand, and demand for items like home goods, small appliances etc. to determine pricing.
    • Use retail software to set and update pricing based on sales trends.
  • Merchandising Support:
    • Assist with stocking and displaying hard goods on the sales floor, if needed, to enhance customer appeal.
    • Coordinate with store team to rotate inventory and highlight high-value items.
  • Customer and Mission Alignment:
    • Provide excellent customer service to donors and shoppers, reflecting SVdP’s values.
    • Communicate SVdP’s mission to donors, fostering community support for thrift store programs.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow safety protocols when handling heavy or bulky items, using equipment like dollies or carts.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe donation and pricing area.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in retail home goods or pricing is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 1+ year in retail, thrift, or donation processing preferred.
    • Experience researching or pricing hard goods (e.g., home goods, small appliances, pictures, etc.) is a plus.
  • Hard Skills:
    • Ability to research market values for hard goods using online tools or price guides.
    • Familiarity with safe handling of heavy items and donation processing workflows.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong customer service and communication skills to interact with donors and staff.
    • Detail-oriented with good judgment for pricing decisions.
    • Team player, adaptable to a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and move items up to 30 lbs. regularly (e.g., sets of dishes, small appliances).
    • Comfort standing, walking, and bending for extended periods.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule, including every other Saturday.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of thrift store operations or secondhand retail pricing.
  • Passion for SVdP’s mission to support the community through affordable goods and services.
  • Experience with pricing, knowledge on home goods, small appliances, etc.
